After the FDA’s panel of independent experts voted 20 “yes” at its meeting today and an expert abstained, Moderna recommended the Kovid-19 vaccine, which was announced to be 94.1 percent effective, to be used in people aged 18 and over.
Following the panel’s recommendation, the FDA is expected to approve the use of the vaccine today.
Following official approval, approximately 5.9 million doses of vaccine will be distributed within the United States.
Moderna’s vaccine will be the second vaccine that has been confirmed to be safe and effective upon completion of the approval process.
The FDA had approved the Kovid-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech last Friday.
Moderna’s Kovid-19 vaccine, which can be stored at refrigerator temperatures, is expected to be easier to distribute.
